Hyderabad: The Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (
CPP), it appears, will take longer to complete with the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (
GHMC) yet to sort out issues with locals and resident living in and around the glittering bangle market of
Laad Bazaar.
It was earlier reported in these columns that the
Telangana government had announced, on April 1, that project, which has been crawling at snail's pace since 1999, would be completed within six months.
More than seven months and an expenditure of over Rs 30 crore later, the project is far from complete. As it turns out, the GHMC recently admitted that cobblestone laying along the Laad Bazaar-Charminar stretch could not begin as it could not find common ground with locals. "On Laad Bazaar stretch, the contractor is ready by procuring all the require cobblestone material, however it could not be taken up," GHMC superintending engineer (SE) wrote to TOI
