KTR urges MoD to defer AOC road closure

HYDERABAD: Municipal administration minister K Taraka Rama Rao has requested the ministry of defence (MoD) to defer closure of Gough Road to general public. The arterial road, which connects Neredmet and surrounding areas to Secunderabad, will be closed for private vehicles from November 30.
“The road closure issue came up for discussion when MA&UD minister Rama Rao met defence minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi.
The other issues, including defence land for proposed two skyways and road widening as part of ‘Strategic Road Development Project’ (SRDP) also discussed with the Union defence minister, according to an official release issued here.
Later, speaking to the media in Delhi, the minister said, the Telangana government has proposed two skyways__Paradise to Nagpur Highway, and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Shamirpet __ through the Secunderabad Cantonment. “The defence minister, who responded positively to our request, asked us to allot equivalent state government land. We are willing to give our land,” he added.
Regarding allotment of state government land to the MoD in lieu of 100 acre defence land for alternate roads in AOC, he said the Telangana government was considering giving land on the outskirts of the city. “A decision on allotment of government land will be taken in a week after discussions with the chief minister,” the minister added.
