Brazil and Argentina will put their best foot forward when they will meet each other on Friday at 5:15 AM IST for world cup qualifying match of South America. You can watch the match online here.

Brazil will play at Belo Horizonte for the first time in two years on Friday, where they last played against Germany in the semi-final of World Cup 2014 and faced an embarrassing loss as the final score read 7-1 and two years since then, many players in the squad including team captain Neymar has already made it clear that they will be out there to make the fans forgot about the humiliation they faced against Germany. ‘A win would be good to take the weight off a bit,’ midfielder Renato Augusto says. ‘We discussed it at the Olympics and obviously now that the game is at the Mineirao it will be back again. But we have to look to the future and not to the past.’

There will be plenty of emotions running in the Brazilian camp when they play host to bitter rivals Argentina for the 11th round South American World Cup Qualifying fixtures. The match is a CONMEBOL 2018 World Cup qualifier. At the moment, Brazil is leading the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification table with 21 points earned from 10 games, just 1 point clear off the second placed Uruguay. While Argentina stands at 6th in the table with 16 points.

Argentina have their own ideas of a form of redemption having made a stumbling start on the road to Russia 2018, but a trip to the five-time world champions, who have remarkably never lost a qualifying game at home, remains an uphill and unenviable task.

It goes without saying that Neymar will be the key man for Brazil, while Lionel Messi is the star player of Argentina. Both the players happen to be Barcelona team mates and it will be an interesting event to see when they will face each other. The match between two teams is dubbed as South American ‘Superclasico’.

Lionel Messi & Co have won just one of their past five competitive matches while Brazil have kept three clean sheets in their last four qualifying matches to help them top the group. This is the 107th meeting between Brazil and Argentina and Neymar’s team have a slight edge in head to head record, winning 43 matches compared to Argentina’s 38. The home side also have the superior recent record, with just three defeats in the last 13 Superclasicos.

Even though records favour Brazil but Argentina will not be pushing the panic button just yet, even a fifth-placed finish would send them into an inter-continental play-off against a weaker team from Oceania, most likely New Zealand. For the 2014 World Cup, Uruguay, having finished fifth, faced Jordan. ‘We must try to earn the points now and beating Brazil would give us the confidence we need,’ Sergio Aguero said this week. ‘We are all bunched together [in the qualification table], so we have a great chance to add three points and move up.’
