The fact that a couple of Tamil films ' Sivaji and
Pichaikkaran have already broached this topic sent social media into a tizzy. We spoke to director
Sasi on what went behind the writing of the scene in Pichaikkaran.
He says, 'I felt that it would be interesting to have a scene where a beggar talks economics. I was exploring what he could be talking about, and one of my assistant directors told me of this concept of taking ` 500 and `1000 notes out of circulation.
This had been proposed by Chandrababu Naidu in 2013. So, we presented this concept in a humorous way.'
Interestingly, the scene was almost cut from the final film. 'During editing, the scene felt like an add-on. We thought of removing it. But I felt that audiences will connect to it because it spoke about an issue that they felt strongly about, and it was presented entertainingly,' reveals Sasi.
