CM asks Jains to fund medical college
Rajkot: Chief minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday called upon the Jain community to come forward and help build a medical college in Rajkot as the state government plans to double the number of such colleges in the coming years.
“The state government is committed to double the number of medical colleges to ensure better health facilities. I appeal to Jain community members to come forward and help build new medical college in Rajkot,” Rupani, a Jain himself, said while speaking at a function organized by the Jain Jainam Group here on Wednesday.
Rupani also said that the government will be building dedicated pathways for Jain monks for their safety during their religious foot marches.

“We have already announced the dedicated pathway from Vallbhipur to Palitana for Jain monks,” CM added. Local BJP leaders and Jain monks also attended the function.
The CM later attended the first cricket Test match between India and England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday and felicitated former SCA players Salim Durani, Dileep Joshi, Karsan Ghavri, Dhiraj Parsana, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja among others.
Rupani also met family members of 15 youths from Sokhda village near Rajkot who were killed in a road accident near Dholka four days ago. He handed over cheques amounting to Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to kin of the deceased. He offered flowers to the photographs of the deceased and condoled the family members.
