HARIPUR: Despite the passage of four months and advance payment of rent, the two National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) offices in Haripur have still not relocated to the new common building, sources told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

Sources said that public complaints are frequently filed about the separate locations of female and male NADRA processing offices in Haripur district.

NADRA authorities took notice of the situation and found the decision to run two separate offices both costly and problematic for the government and general public.

Sources and some residents of Haripur said that visiting two separate locations for family-related work was tiresome and costly.

According to local NADRA sources, after approval from the top, a local NADRA official had entered into agreement with a local landlord to move to a building near village Shah Muhammad on GT road in July, and the first payment for the six-month move was made on August 1. The rent is Rs90,000 per month.

Before finalisation of the rent deed, sources said the NADRA officials had some structural changes made in the building, after which the owner was given six-months rent in advance.

But despite a lapse of four months and advance payment for six, the NADRA office has yet to relocate.

Meanwhile when approached for comment, local NADRA office in-charge Umar confirmed that both offices were being shifted to the new building and a rent deed has been signed between the landlord  and NADRA. He said official procedures caused the delays. He said that some renovation work was still under way at the building, and after completion, NADRA’s contractor would visit and approve it. He expressed hope that relocation would be completed within the next month.
