PM Narendra Modi thanks Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan for supporting ban on Rs 500, Rs 1000 notes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wrote back to celebrities on Twitter thanking them for their support for his government's efforts to check the menace of corruption, black money and terror funding.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wrote back to celebrities on Twitter, thanking them for supporting the government’s efforts to check the menace of corruption, black money and terror funding. He has been receiving a lot of appreciation for his decision to ban the high value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, which came into effect from the midnight on Tuesday.

Superstar Rajinikanth, while praising PM Modi’s decision, saying it will pave way for a new India. “Hats off @narendramodi ji. New india is born #JaiHind,” he posted on his Twitter account. To which Modi wrote back saying that each one of us have to work together to rid the country of corruption. “Thank you. All of us have to work shoulder to shoulder and create a prosperous, inclusive and corruption free India,” Modi tweeted to Rajinikanth.

Another Kollywood titan Kamal Haasan lauded Modi and said it should be cerebrated by tax payers, who are usually the first victims of black money and corruption. “Salute Mr. Modi. This move has to be celebrated across political party lines. Most importantly, by earnest tax payers,” the Vishwaroopam actor said.”This step was taken in the interest of our honest citizens who deserve a better India,” the Prime Minister responded.

It is worth mentioning that Kamal was one of Modi’s nine nominees who were selected to spearhead his Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or ‘Clean India’ campaign. He had nominated nine celebrated persons from different walks of life and had asked each of them to nominate nine other people to turn his ‘Clean India’ campaign into a people’s movement.

Modi also responded to Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, who congratulated him for his efforts to boost India’s economy. “Tweeting frm Paris/congrats @narendramodi Ji!!for rewarding us tax payers/india on the way to become a super economy (sic)#IndiaFightsCorruption.”

“This step was taken in the interest of our honest citizens who deserve a better India,” Modi wrote back to Nagarjuna.
