Only rush-hour access to Hindon barrage road

Only rush-hour access to Hindon barrage road
Ghaziabad: There will be limited access to traffic on the Hindon barrage road near Vasundhara in Ghaziabad from Friday onwards. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) will allow traffic thoroughfare on the road for eight and a half hours daily, while it will close the stretch for the remaining period in order to undertake construction work on Hindon Elevated Road.
The arrangement will remain in force for about one and a half months, starting from November 11.
During this period, commuters who generally use the Hindon barrage road to travel from GT Road towards Indirapuram or vice versa, will have two alternatives. They can use the newly commissioned New Link Road or the Mohan Nagar crossing during the time period that the barrage road is closed to traffic.
At present, commuters are able to use the New Link Road only to travel from NH-58 towards NH-24, as only one side of the road has been opened. According to officials, the road will be operational both ways within a week.
Traffic on the Hindon barrage road will be allowed daily only during peak hours, that is, from 7-10.30am and 5-10pm.
For the remaining period, barricades will be placed at the zero point of the new Hindon Bridge on GT Road on one side. Vehicles will be stopped on the other side near another bridge across Hindon canal, which is connected to a road towards Pratap Vihar.
On Tuesday, GDA officials held a meeting to chalk out a framework that would help them complete the pending work on Hindon Elevated Road within the period that the barrage road will be closed to traffic. Officials said the arrangement has been put in place in order to ensure the safety of commuters, as heavy machinery will be deployed for construction work on the elevated road.
The GDA will undertake work on 14 pillars on the stretch of the barrage road where vehicular movement will be restricted. Segments will be placed on pillars that have already been raised.
The traffic police said they would use their resources to ensure that vehicular jams did not result from the detours put in place. “Traffic jams are unlikely because the New Link Road has already been opened as an alternative route. We don’t foresee any problem as far as vehicular movement is concerned,” Ghaziabad SP (Traffic) Rajesh Kumar said.
