New Delhi: Last-minute doubts over conduct of the first Test between India and England, that begins at Rajkot on Wednesday, were removed with the Supreme Court lifting banking restrictions imposed on the cricket control board and allowing it to disburse sufficient funds to the hosting association.
Late on Tuesday, the BCCI said in a petition filed before the court that the Rajkot match, organised by the Saurasthra Cricket Association, could not be played “unless money is disbursed to the board” to manage running costs for the game.
The court on the day set aside its ruling of last month that the BCCI would have to get the okay from the Lodha committee to release funds to state associations under any head. For the Rajkot game, an amount of Rs 56 lakh was cleared.
The apex court also allowed the BCCI to disburse funds for the remaining four Test matches.
