With strong abhinaya and flawless moves, dancers
Sreelatha Vinod and
Atheena Madhu presented a Bharatanatyam recital in the capital city recently.
The two-hour long performance opened with an invocation to lord Ganesha, Sree Vignarajam Bhaje… in ragam Gambheera Nattai. Later
Atheena presented a shabdam, Thillayambalam that narrated the emotions of a maiden who lost her heart to the idol of lord Nataraja.
“The shabdam is a dedication to my gurus Thanjai Arunachalam Pillai and Dhanajayans. The piece was penned and composed by Thanjai Arunachalam Pillai himself,” says
Sreelatha Vinod.
The highlight of the presentation was Adum Mayil Vahananne… by the dancers. “It is a Ninda Sthuthi by two maidens. While one has fallen in love with lord Muruga, the other is testing her friend’s love, says Sreelatha adding that the composition is
Periyasaamy Thooran’s first composition for Bharathanatyam. “This being the 108th anniversary of the Carnatic music composer, Thooran, we decided to include the same in our repertoire. And Aadum Mayil Vahana... set to ragamalika effectively conveys the concept Ninda Sthuthi,” says Sreelatha.
No need to mention that the deft eye movements, synchronised mudras and adavus enchanted the audience.
