Prohibitory orders clamped in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada ahead of Tipu Jayanthi
As a precautionary measure ahead of Tipu Jayanthi, district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC.
MANGALURU/UDUPI: As a precautionary measure ahead of Tipu Jayanthi, district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC. However, imposing the section will not disturb common man’s life in undivided Dakshina Kannada district. While the ban is applicable up to 6am on November 11 in Udupi, it is applicable for 72-hours up to 6pm on November 12 in Dakshina Kannada district.
The ban order will not be applicable to the venue of official Tipu Jayanti celebration in the two districts.
K G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday said that all the public/political programmes will be prohibited. People are asked not to distribute any pamphlets/articles that can incite communal sentiments and leads to violence. Citizens are prohibited from taking procession during Tipu Jayanthi. Orders will not applicable to social gatherings like marriage and other similar celebrations.
M Chandra Sekhar, city police commissioner, Mangaluru said that 60 CCTVs cameras have been installed across Mangaluru City Commissionerate for surveillance and some of them placed in concealed locations. Also, police have roped in drones with high resolution cameras in vantage points. All the cameras are connected to City Control Room. Around 2,000 police personnel have deployed in city areas.
Chandra Sekhar and Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, Superintendent of Police stressed that they are concentrating more on Kerala-Karnataka borders and have communicated about the developments with their counterparts in Kerala. SP, DC, City Police Commissioner asked netizens not forward any vitriolic messages randomly on social media. They should either delete them or inform the same to police. “Social media group admins will be held responsible for spreading communally incited messages,” they warned.
