VADODARA: The police finally arrested alleged gangster Liaqat Saiyed, who had terrorized the residents of Fatehpura, forcing them to observe a bandh on Sunday and approach the police commissioner
Saiyed was arrested by the City police station from Tandalja late on Sunday night along with two other accomplices Feroz Wielder and Sabir Badshah. Saiyed was on the run for last four days after he thrashing two persons with an iron pipe and a sword in the area.
Saiyed and his seven accomplices had attacked Kunal Joshi and his brother Sunil in Fatehpura on November 3.
The police said that the attack was the fallout of the heated arguments between the accused and the victims over bursting crackers on the day of Diwali.
He was remanded to two days police custody by a local court on Monday. The investigators suspect that Saiyed and his accomplices had hatched a conspiracy to attack the victims.
"We will interrogate him about the whereabouts of other accused," said M N Jadeja, police sub-inspector, City police station who is investigating the case. He added that they yet to recover the weapons that were used by the accused. Saiyed's accomplices, Shoaib and his brother Imran have already been arrested in this case.
When the police failed to trace Saiyed, angry residents of Fatehpura staged protests and accused the cops of inaction. They also submitted a memorandum to the city police commissioner alleging that the cops were overlooking his threats and had instead booked the locals for rioting.
