DDCA: HC restores selectors appointed by Mudgal

The Delhi High Court today lashed out at DDCA for "crossing its limit" and undermining the authority of Justice Mukul Mudgal by sacking the selectors appointed by him and said the cricket body's move "attracts contempt of court".

The Delhi High Court today lashed out at DDCA for "crossing its limit" and undermining the authority of Justice Mukul Mudgal by sacking the selectors appointed by him and said the cricket body's move "attracts contempt of court". Restoring the selection panel appointed by Justice Mudgal, a bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Deepa Sharma suspended the decision of DDCA and castigated it for "misconduct" saying it was "testing everyone's patience here" and their action was akin to "contempt of court".

FIFA coaching camp for women starts

A clinic for female coaches, organised by FIFA in collaboration with the Punjab Football Association started at the JCT football academy today. As many as 23 AFC 'C' certified female coaches are participating in the camp. Out of them four are from Manipur, three from Odisha, four from Karnataka, four from Bengal, five from Goa, two from Maharashtra, one each from Sikkim, Kerala and Gujarat. The camp is being conducted by Australia-based German coach Hestrine De Reus. — OC

The Indian men's and women's teams registered comfortable wins in the 6th Kabaddi World Cup at Moonak in Sangrur district today. The Indian women defeated Mexico 35-21 to enter the semifinals. The Indian men defeated Sweden 58-45. In other matches, England defeated Canada 41-35, Sierra Leone thrashed Sri Lanka 70-6. The Iranian men defeated Argentina 72-27 to enter the semis.

While Andy Murray’s rise to world No. 1 was the main talking point of Monday’s new ATP rankings, 17-time Major champion Federer’s slide to 16th was largely overlooked. “It becomes even tougher (to win a Major), he is not young any more but there is still hope. If there’s one who can do it, it’s Roger. But it will be an emotional challenge for him to come back next year,” Edberg said.

At least 13 people were killed when an angry football fan fired on others watching a match in a bar in South Sudan’s capital Juba, police said today.
