COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN DELIVERS UNIVERSAL PRAYER FOR RAIN IN CATCHMENT AREAS

7th November 2016, LENASIA – The Transvaal Hindu Seva Samaj (THSS) hosted its annual Gujarati New Year Havan at the Gandhi Hall on Sunday 6th November 2016. The Havan was officiated by resident Rameshwar Mandir priest Girishbhai Sookla.

gwpfr20161106_094345_hdrThe Havan was widely attended by members of the community and other organisations too, with some travelling from outside of the Lenasia area to participate in this year’s Samaj Havan. Inclusive of the programme was a universal prayer for rain by Gandhi Walk Chairman, Amit Parbhucharan.

gwpfr20161106_094406_hdr“The situation with our water levels and drying reservoirs in Gauteng is worsening. Whilst many practical steps can be taken by all members of the community and with water restrictions announced and now instituted by various municipalities, it was important to impart a message of the water crisis to all present at the Havan and the need for much needed rain, especially in our catchment areas. It was a morning of prayer and being charged with the same energy the Samaj took the opportunity to have us pray for rain and requested me to perform a universal prayer for rain,” said Gandhi Walk Chairman, Amit Parbhucharan.

gwpfr20161106_094837_hdrParbhucharan amalgamated words of Islamic prayer received from his close colleague at Operation Hydrate, Mahomed Azhar Bulbulia (MAB), as well as those from Christian and Hindu ones to script and deliver a Gandhi Walk Universal Prayer for Rain.

Operation Hydrate is a NGO with a top priority to deliver drinking water to drought stricken areas. Bulbulia added by saying “We take this opportunity to wish members of the Gujarati community Saal Mubarak and with our combined prayers no matter the faith or following, God willing we should get some good beneficial rain”.
