Vijayawada: Lakshmipathi Nagar Colony is facing serious water impurity issue. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has failed to provide the basic important facilities like under ground drain system along with drinking water provision. Along with this they are also facing garbage dumping issue with trees grown heavily.
Residents of Lakshmi-pathi Nagar colony in the city are facing severe problems due lack of underground drainage. Moreover, in the rainy season, it would be very difficult to live in the area as the water overflows on the roads and gets stagnated, explained V. Sudhakar, a resident in the area.
The waste thrown away by the locals on the vacant lands in the colony has also became a source for mosquito breeding, observed A. Hari Gopal, a resident of the colony.
He said that the local residents should stop throwing waste on the roads and vacant lands which in turn is entering into the houses because of the wind.
“The groundwater was not so clean and had impurities, which is being very problematic for drinking water and we are scared of epidemic diseases because of these impurities,” said M. Janaki, a housewife.
Lakshmipathi Nagar Colony has only one main road flanked on either side by Bapuji Nagar and J.D. Nagar and it has a lot of greenery to the keen interest evinced by residents and their welfare association once. But now it looks like a forest with dust and garbage.
“We request the VMC to groom these trees and remove the garbage to make the place for residents to live in,” said Jyothirmayi, an engineer.
