Dehradun, November 6

A one-day workshop on ultra modern techniques of laparoscopic operation was held here today. The workshop was organised jointly by the Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences and Obstetrician and Gynaecological Society, Dehradun.

The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest Dr Rakesh Sinha, principal of the Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr Prof NK Singh and vice-principal Dr AK Mehta.

Dr Rakesh Sinha and his team carried out operations of diseases concerned with the uterus and these were telecast live from the operation theatre to the hospital’s auditorium where specialists of obstetrician and gynaecology were present.

From the auditorium they asked questions which were answered by Dr Sinha from the operation theatre. He explained the ultra-modern technique of operations via laparoscopic method.

Dr Vinita Gupta, president of Dehradun Obstetrician and Gynaecological Society (FOGSI), said laparoscopic operations carried out in modern medical science were quickly replacing the traditional operation method. Specialists wanted to get expertise in this type of surgery. The method of operation was special in many ways as there was a small incision, less pain, fast recovery and early discharge for the patient. All these merits of laparoscopic operations proved to be highly beneficial for the patient, she added.
