CHENNAI: Breaking the ice, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday spoke to DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and inquired about her father and DMK chief M Karunanidhi's health, said a party statement issued on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi had not called on Karunanidhi during his visits to Chennai in the past. But he caused heartburn among DMK circles by calling on chief minister J Jayalalithaa at Apollo Hospitals recently.
Apart from Rahul Gandhi, former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also spoke to Kanimozhi. Karunanidhi is ill for the past couple of weeks owing to drug-induced allergy . MDMK chief Vaiko, Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasamy, TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar, former TNCC chief E V K S Elangovan, CPM MP T K Rengarajan and several other political leaders inquired about Karunanidhi's health.
In recent days, Karunanidhi's elder son and former Union minister M K Alagiri has been meeting him at his Gopalapuram residence.
