The Pita Rabo coached-Suva football side escaped with a 1-1 draw against Labasa in a waterlogged Subrail Park, Labasa during the Vodafone Premier League clash yesterday.

 

What happened: Playing under heavy ground condition, both team started on a high note as they gunned for the three points. The Babasiga Lions played without coach Ronil Lal who was tied down with work commitments in Ba.

The  Lions went 1-0 up in the 46th minute when striker Christopher Wasasala’s  corner kick was headed in by Ilisoni Lolaivalu.

 

Halftime: Labasa 1-0 Suva

The capital city side changed their pattern in the second half as heavy rain disrupted their passing. In the 65th minute, stylish Suva striker Setareki Hughes corner kick was headed in by Sairusi Nalaubu.

 

Comments: Suva coach/player Rabo praised his players for playing their hearts out despite the heavy ground conditions.

“We were able to equalise because of the coordination and communication on the field among the players.

“We are on 17 points now and we hope that good weather prevails in our game against Dreketi.”

Labasa Football Association president Riyaz Khan said if the weather was good they would have scored more goals.

“We have a better goal average than Suva and we are confident to make a good finish in the league. We are hoping to finish at second place in the standings and definitely we will do well in our remaining matches.”
