Three dead as truck hits them on highway at Kashimira
MUMBAI: Three men including the cleaner of a luxury bus heading to Ahmedabad were killed on the spot when a speeding truck hit them on the highway at Kashimira on Saturday. Three others who sustained injuries have been admitted to the hospital. The luxury bus with passengers, all families from Ahmedabad, who were in Mumbai for a holiday, were returning home.
On Saturday evening, the bus halted near a hotel on the Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway at Kashimira for a tea break. Six men alighted from the bus and walked alongside the road to answer nature's call. A speeding truck heading towards Ahmedabad lost control and crashed into the victims. The truck then crashed into three stationery vehicles including a mini bus.
The bus cleaner Salim Patan (42), passengers Paresh Adani (31) and Jignesh Patel (46) died on the spot. They were all residents of Godra, Ahmedabad and Baroda respectively.
Bus driver Kemu Bhoi (43) from Godra, and passengers Praful Kachi (45) from Baroda and Suresh Shah (60) from Ahmedabad sustained injuries. They are in a nearby hospital. The driver of the truck Dayashankar Vishwakarma (45) has been arrested. Police said that the victims were returning home after a trip to Esselworld in Borivli. The bus had halted on the highway to pick up passengers who had gone for a Mumbai darshan and were to return to the bus. The truck driver was caught by locals. He has been taken for medical examination to ascertain if he was drunk behind the wheels.
