Rahul Raj must deposit Rs 20 lakh to avoid arrest

The cheating case has been filed by Heer Patel, who has accused Raj of taking Rs 25 lakh from her after promising her a lead role in a film, which he never made

Mumbai: Rahul Raj Singh, accused of abetting the suicide of girlfriend Pratyusha Banerjee, now faces arrest in a cheating case if he doesn’t deposit Rs 20 lakh before the court in a cheating case. “We have directions from the court that Rahul Raj Singh has to deposit Rs 20 lakh before December 1,” said a senior officer of Mumbai Police.

However, Rahul denied any such development. “There is no such instruction by the court. The question is why was the case filed after 6 years. She has not yet deposited original papers before the court,” he alleged. Rahul had approached the Bombay High Court after the Sessions Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. In August this year, Rahul had got interim protection from arrest after police assured the Bombay High Court that it won’t do so.

According to TV actor Heer Patel’s FIR, Rahul narrated a film script to her in 2010 and asked her to invest Rs 25 lakh in it. He promised to cast Patel as lead actress in the movie and also agreed to show her father’s name as co-producer of the movie. Patel has alleged that not only did Rahul not make the movie, he also refused to return her money. Three other women have also accused Rahul of duping them of their money, including Kesha Khambhati who has said that Rahul cheated her of Rs 2.5 lakh.
