Public hearing of PMC delimitation process today

For everyone who has raised objection or made suggestions on the delimitation process of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the forthcoming civic polls, it would be the last opportunity for them to be heard as the state Election Commission would carry out the public hearing on Friday on the delimitation process.

The PMC election office received a total of 1,099 suggestions and objections on the delimitation process implemented for the civic polls.

According to the election office, most of the suggestion and objections have been on change in the boundaries of electoral panel followed by few suggestions in change of electoral panel and reservation of seats.

In the delimitation, the civic election department as per the commission directives have formed 39 electoral panel of four electoral wards and two of three electoral wards for electing 162 corporators.

It has also ensured the reservation of 50 per cent seats for women in each of the categories of SC, ST, OBC and open as per constitutional provisions.

The public hearing would be held at Balgandharva Rang Mandir from 10 am. The hearing on suggestion and objections related to electoral panel from one to 10 will start at 10 am, for electoral panel 11 to 20 at 11.30 am, for panel 21 to 30 at 2.30 pm and 31 to 41 at 3.30 pm.

The committee headed by Principal Secretary Sitaram Kunte, nominated by EC, would conduct the hearing and submit the report to the commission. The civic election department too would submit its report on the suggestion and objection to the commission which would take the final decision by December. After the delimitation, all political parties, except BJP, had expressed dissatisfaction with the NCP.
