Booze rowdies thrash cops, one arrested
Barasat: A police team comprising a sub-inspector, an ASI and at least three constables were allegedly assaulted by a group of drunken youths while the cops ‘dared to stop’ loud music and vulgar dancing being played in a residential locality late on Wednesday night even after Kali Puja immersion at Gaighata in North 24-Parganas.
An accused has been arrested.
The incident took place at Chandpara while some members of a local club (Milansangha) were playing loud music and dancing with making obscene gesture at the passersby.
“Youths who were drunk heavily continued with playing loud music and vulgar dancing. It was quite late and we couldn’t sleep owing to the noise. Around 11pm, some locals asked them to turn off the loud speaker but they didn't budge. The booze rowdies threatened them to leave the spot,” said a local resident.
“The prime accused has already been arrested. We also have names of some of the others who were involved in the incident,” said Bhaskar Mukherjee, SP, North 24-Parganas. — Sanjib Chakraborty
