A recent poll in Texas shows that 45 percent of likely voters say they have a “favorable” opinion of Senator Ted Cruz. Those numbers are up 10 percent after his speech at the GOP convention where he told Republicans to “vote your conscience.”

Cruz angered Republicans and Trump supporters when he declined to expressly endorse the candidate, and as reported by Breitbart News, was booed during his speech at the Republican National Convention. He responded to the heckling by quipping, “I appreciate the enthusiasm of the New York delegation.”

Fifty-one percent of the likely voters who participated in the October 27 to 29 poll said they have a “somewhat unfavorable” or “very unfavorable” view of Cruz. The unfavorable numbers are down 10 percent from 61 percent on August 11. The poll results included the response of 980 likely voters across the state–383 Republicans, 304 Democrats, and 293 others, reported CBSDFW.

The KTVT CBS 11/Dixie Strategies Poll in August showed that 35 percent said they had a “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” opinion of the Texas Senator, as reported by the CBS affiliate in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on November 1.

A statement from Cruz released on September 23 on his Facebook page said, “After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.”

The freshman senator did not endorse the GOP presidential nominee until four months after he dropped out of the race.

Breitbart Texas was in Kingwood, Texas, on September 16 when Senator Cruz spoke to patriots gathered for a Constitution Day celebration. He told those at the event that three of the U.S. Supreme Court justices are quite advanced in years. The next president will have the opportunity to select the justices to replace them, he said.

“Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to represent the United States,” he charged, and he delighted the crowd when he added, “I have some government housing in mind for her, but it’s a little smaller and has fewer windows.” Cruz never expressly mentioned the Republican presidential nominee.

A week later he released his Facebook post endorsing Trump. He said there were six policy reasons for his decision, “First, and most important,” he said was the U.S. Supreme Court. “For anyone concerned about the Bill of Rights—free speech, religious liberty, the Second Amendment–the Court hangs in the balance.” He said the second was Obamacare. As has been devastatingly evident this week, the Senator was correct when he said, “The failed healthcare law is hurting millions of Americans.”

In endorsing the GOP nominee, Senator Cruz also said “Clinton would continue the Obama administration’s war on coal and relentless efforts to crush the oil and gas industry,” and would “continue and even expand President Obama’s lawless executive amnesty.” He added that national security was at stake because of Clinton’s and Obama’s “willful blindness to radical Islamic terrorism.” He noted that she will continue to import Middle Eastern refugees whom the FBI cannot safely vet.

Cruz also said that freedom of speech, in particular, Internet freedom is at stake. Clinton supports the globalist plan of President Obama. As reported by Breitbart Texas in early October, attorneys general for the states of Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Nevada were denied their request to stop President Obama’s unilateral “give-away” of the Internet. The attorneys general filed the lawsuit after Congress failed to act to stop the planned turn-over.

“If Clinton wins, we know—with 100% certainty—that she would deliver on her left-wing promises, with devastating results for our country,” Cruz said in his statement endorsing Donald Trump.

“Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.”

On Tuesday, the chairman of the Lone Star State’s Republican Party of Texas, Tom Mechler, announced that Senator Cruz “was gracious enough to contribute $50,000 to the Republican Party of Texas for our efforts to Keep Texas Red on November 8th.”

“Senator Cruz understands the importance of this election and that our conservative values are at stake,” he said in an email blast to the GOP faithful.

Senator Cruz has also been helping to raise money for fellow Republicans in senate races.
