On the 110th birth anniversary of
Prithviraj Kapoor, actor
Rishi Kapoor took to his social networking handle to send out his wishes and gratitude to his late grandfather. Prithviraj was a pioneer of Indian theatre and an outstanding actor who started his career in the silent era of Hindi cinema. Needless to say, he was the patriarch of what is considered the first family of
Bollywood ' the Kapoors.
He was also one of the founding members of the now famous
Prithvi Theatre. In over 16 years of its existence under Kapoor, the theatre performed 2,662 shows, with Prithviraj starring as the lead actor in every show. While he made his mark in the film industry for his part in 'Awaara' (1951) and 'Pardesi' (1957) among other movies, many from today's generation remember him as the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 'Mughal-E-Azam' (1960).
Rishi shared a collage of his grandfather saying, 'Happy Birthday,Prithviraj Kapoor! 3rd November 1906- 29th May 1972. Thank you for all!'
