Vacuum cleaners must need keep up with the digital age. Plain straightforward ones are now the slowly but surely going robotic, trying to ensure you do less and they do more.

That’s the mandate of a number of cleaning robots from Milagrow, an established consumer robots brand in India. We checked out the AguaBot 5.0, the company’s first full wet mopping and dry cleaning floor vacuuming robot with a smart mop sized 350x210mm.

The AguaBot is a round thing, maybe a bit larger than a frisbee. It has a water reservoir and mop attachment. Just fill the water in and put the mop at the bottom of the water tank and and let the robot do the rest. The front portion of the mop will do the wet mopping while the back, which is dry, will wipe the floor dry. It can tackle upholstery and carpets as well, though of course, that will fall into the dry category.

It’s rather fun to see the gadget work. It can be controlled via a smartphone app or onboard controls or a remote. It can revolve in one place to get rid of a specific collection of dirt, or it can travel along all over a room. In fact, the robot can be scheduled to clean a room floor at a specific time, while you’re away, perhaps. If it runs out of its user replaceable battery, the robot will obligingly locate its charging dock attached to a wall socket, and with a decisive beep, dock itself in for charging. Obviously, it won’t come out again on its own however. Another thing that’s amusing to watch is how its movement and object sensors figure out how not to fall off a surface such as a sofa, which is when it uses its brushless mode. Neither will it bump into objects or people.

Corners are a little difficult for it because of the round shape, but for the rest, the gizmo picks up dirt just fine. AguaBot 5.0 has dual suction control. The maximum suction can go up to 45W and will get activated when the AguaBot senses extra dirt or when the user chooses the turbo suction.

The normal mode saves battery while the turbo mode provides the extra power needed to suck dirt up good. The bot weighs just 2.5 kgs and covers about 3,500 square feet in about 120 minutes.
