KOLKATA: The Red Horns Division of the Army's Eastern Command reached out to the Veer Naris from lower Assam at Rangiya on Wednesday by holding a camp to spread awareness on the various central and state government schemes for them. As many as 118 widows of soldiers who laid down their lives for the country attended the camp at Rangiya and also underwent medical check-ups by Army doctors.
"Ways for speedy disposal of any disputes that the widows may have were also discussed.
The meet at the Red Horns Auditorium was one in a series of interactions held frequently to felicitate and interact with widows of ex-servicemen. Samina Sirohi, chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, Red Horns Division, interacted with the widows and discussed their problems. The issues discussed included schemes for placement of wards/widows of the ex-servicemen. The response was overwhelming and the grievances of widows were noted down for mitigation," said Lt Col Suneet Newton, PRO, Ministry of Defence, Guwahati.
Similar meets were organised at Sarbhog, Mangaldai and Bongaigaon by the Red Horns Division for the benefit of more than 700 widows of ex-servicemen from the lower Assam area.
