Former DNC chair: Clinton camp shouldn’t attack FBI director
Former Democratic National Committee chairman Ed Rendell on Tuesday criticized Hillary Clinton’s campaign for attacking FBI Director James Comey.
{mosads}”I think that’s, I wouldn’t do that,” Rendell, the former governor of Pennsylvania, said on 1210 WPHT Philadelphia radio, CNN reported.
“Again, you know, I’m not running the campaign by any means, but I wouldn’t do that. I agree with you.”
Comey on Friday sent a letter to lawmakers telling them the bureau would be reviewing newly discovered emails “pertinent” to its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private server while serving as secretary of State.
The emails were discovered during a separate investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over an alleged online relationship with a 15-year-old girl. Weiner is the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Democrats have been ramping up pressure on the FBI to release details about the agency’s review of the new emails and have framed the letter as unprecedented.
Clinton’s campaign manager criticized the FBI Tuesday for not applying equal scrutiny to Donald Trump’s ties to Russia.
Rendell said the more that comes out about the new review, the “stranger it is,” but reiterated he didn’t think it was a good idea for the Clinton campaign to attack the FBI director.
“Like the agents had this material or knew about the existence of the material at the beginning of October and didn’t tell the director until the end of October,” he said.
“That makes no sense at all. So the more that this comes out, I think the more facts that come out, the better it is for Secretary Clinton but I agree with you, I wouldn’t attack him.”
