KOLKATA: The Tarapith
Rampurhat Development Authority (TRDA), constituted by the
Mamata Banerjee government last March for planned urban development, will have an extended jurisdiction.
The state cabinet in its last meeting at
Nabanna approved the proposal for extension. The jurisdiction of the authority originally covered 56 mouzas, scattered across 95.79sqkm. The extension will include 15 more mouzas in Rampurhat Block I with an area of 39.933sqkm, increasing the area by 40%.
TRDA was constituted on March 25, 2015 for developing Tarapith and Rampurhat area in a planned manner.
Various development activities, including beautification of temple surroundings, rehabilitation of the sadhus, beautification of Rampurhat bypass road, building a shopping complex and fairground at Tarapith and construction of shops have been taken up under TRDA. The development body has now turned its focus on upgrade of pilgrims' facilities at the temple, creation of an amusement park, development of riverfront amenities on the left bank of Dwarka river, parking areas, removal of encroachments at Rampurhat, among others.
