‘I laugh throughout the day’

Famous for his unique dance steps and his comic timing on The Kapil Sharma Show, Kiku Sharda is for the first time playing one of the lead roles in a Bollywood film. He talks about his debut film 2016 - The End and why he enjoys working where there is laughter.

Like Kapil Sharma who starred in a successful film Kis Kis Ko Pyar Karoon, are you also doing a film to explore other genres?

Yeah, I like to do films and would like to feature in more films. I am attracted to the idea of telling a story in two hours.

Were you drawn to the 2016 - The End because it has comic elements?

It’s not about whether there is comedy in this film; the idea that the world will come to an end is so cool in itself. I really liked the concept and that is why I signed on the film. When I read the script, I found it very funny. It makes you laugh but at the end it also gives out a message. Go easy, laughing is the most important thing.

As you are known for your comic gigs, is your role also a comic one?

The film is funny, so it is applicable for all the actors in the film (Harshad Chopra, Divyendu Sharma, Priya Bannerjee). The situations are funny so you can’t say that I am playing a comic role. The film has funny situations where all the four friends get stuck and fun elements happen to them but yeah, obviously, when I am there then funny instances have to be there (smiles).

Would you prefer to restrict yourself to comedy roles in films too?

I have not really thought whether I would do specifically comedy or non-comedy films. The story should be attractive.

Would you take yourself as pro in comedy now?

No ... no! What pro? I only do my job. I enjoy doing comedy and things that make people laugh. Because when you are doing comedy or you are talking or discussing the script, you are also laughing. I enjoy myself so much being with people who are writing our show and also with the other actors. I have a great day ... I laugh throughout the day. This is what I like to do. People keep asking me why I don’t do serious roles, but that is not the point. I just want to enjoy my day while shooting and have fun.

What do you expect from this film?

I expect the audience to have a good time while watching it. I have had the pleasure of working in this film -- it was really enjoyable and that is far more important than the final outcome of the film. Obviously, I want the film to do well and reach out to more people. I understand that in today’s scenario marketing and letting people know about the film is a big task. We are doing our bit but I really wish that everyone watches it.

Your film is releasing on the heels of two major films -- Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Are you apprehensive about that?

I am assuming and hoping that people will have watched Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay over the weekend so they are free and available to watch this film.
