Housing.com, Magic Bricks and 99acres are the main curators of properties and Amazon might be on its way to become the first broad based e-commerce firm to enter the business.
Amit Agarwal, Amazon India head without confirming the move, said “People trust Amazon for everything in their lives… It’s like the Roti, Kapda aur Makaan (phenomenon), and when you start trusting someone for that, that’s very much it.”
Amazon has already spread its roots in the two sectors – Roti and Kapda. Entering the grocery market in 2015 and stands tall in the world’s largest apparel e-store. Sanchit Vir Gogia, founder and chief analyst of Greyhound Research however, had a different point of view, he said, “Amazon’s biggest advantage is its user base and its analytics. However, real estate is a very different business, and needs to be approached in a different manner, which is not Amazon’s forte”.
“In a country where there is so much diversity, and convenience is so poor, wouldn’t you want to touch every one and change their lives?” Agarwal said. For Agarwal it’s important that one is be able to able to buy anything from Amazon. The festive season numbers reveal that the number of sarees which the giant sold could cover more than 150 cricket stadiums and the books it sold, could have made a book mountain six times higher than the Mount Everest.
