Jamil Sheikh was supposed to meet his son Mujeeb on Tuesday in Khandwa jail in Madhya Pradesh. He had booked his ticket and would have boarded the train in the evening. Instead, a team of police officials from the Special Operation Group knocked on his door in Ahmedabad and took to him to their office. “He told me he would now go to bring the body of his son,” said a neighbour.

Mujeeb, Jamil’s elder son, was arrested by MP police in 2011. Jamil refused to speak to reporters who gathered outside his flat. Jamil works in the PWD.

The neighbour said, “I don’t know much about Mujeeb but whatever information I have gathered it seems that he was brainwashed by radical elements.” The family moved to Muhib apartments about six months ago.

Mujeeb, a stone polisher from Juhapura, had allegedly formed a group of 12 to 15 youths before the July 26, 2008, serial blasts.

The interrogation of Alamzeb Afridi, said to be the first India recruit by the Islamic States and a key accused in the blasts case, has revealed that it was Mujeeb who introduced Afridi to SIMI activists and took him to the meetings held at Juhapura. Afridi is also a resident of Juhapura.
