HOWRAH: A 46-year-old worker in a Howrah paints factory, believed to be a CPM supporter, was found murdered in his Shibpur residence on Sunday morning under mysterious circumstances. Police said while prima facie Amal Ray was found hanging, his hands were tied with a leather belt and there were bite and scratch marks on his neck.
Ray was estranged from his family for the last couple of years, his landlady Madhabi Dutta told police.
On Sunday morning, the doors and windows of his rented Ram Mohan Mukherjee Lane home were found open. The fence outside, too, appeared damaged in parts. Inside, Ray was found hanging. Police said the room wasn't ransacked indicating that the killers had no other motive but to kill Ray. A murder case has been registered. CPM's district secretary Biplab Majumdar said: "He was a dedicated party supporter."
