Dharamsala, October 29

Residents of Sidhpur in Dharamsala organised a protest here today. Ramesh Saini, a resident, said the PWD started widening of the Sidhbari-Masrer road about 25 days ago. Workers dug the old water pipelines on the plea that the drain would be constructed here.

This disrupted the water supply to about 70 houses. The contractor had promised residents that the water supply to their houses would be resumed once the work on the drain was completed.

The protesters said the contractor had now left the work on drain and started constructing retaining walls. “On enquiries, we came to know from the contractor that the workers would now start the work on drain after completing the retaining wall. This means the people will have to wait for one more month to get water,” they said.

The residents of the area, besides organising the protest, also met the higher officials of the PWD and IPH Department and demanded the early water supply to their houses.

They had also written to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and local minister Sudhir Sharma protesting against the mismanagement by PWD and IPH officials which left them thirsty.
