In a first of its kind, the small screen will be witness to Lord Krishna sporting a moustache. And he will played by none other than JD Majethia in 'Khidki'. Ask the actor-producer as to what made him defy the norms, and he says, “There is a belief that God is clean-shaven, always dressed in elaborate, traditional costume and speaks chaste Hindi. I was prepared to shave my moustache for the role, but then chose to retain it.
It struck me that when we say that God is within us, it means that he can take any form. I spent a lot of time finalising the look and costume of the character, as I wanted him to be cool and casual. The Krishna that you see on the show, wears a moustache, converses in English with kids and wears cool clothes.” Interestingly, Majethia made his return to acting after seven years with this show.
By his own admission, the new-age Lord Krishna has been by far the most difficult character he has played on screen. “Playing a dramatic character is easier than portraying divinity, as it requires you to be calm and graceful. It is also easier to play a human character as you always have a case study. But playing God, whose references can only be drawn from calendars, mythological shows, films or religious texts, is difficult. Since I am a religious person, it was even more challenging to play the part.”
