SURAT: A massive jam on both sides of National Highway (NH)-8 on Sardar Bridge between
Bharuch and
Ankleshwar during peak hours held up motorists for several hours on Friday. The queue of vehicles stretched to 4-km on
Golden Bridge over
Narmada river in Bharuch, caused because of heavy rush of people going on holidays, but who got caught in the gridlock due to flyover construction at
Mulad Chowkdy near Sardar Bridge.
Nearly 10,000 vehicles were caught in the traffic jam on Sardar Bridge during the peak hours. However, the traffic congestion on NH-8 had begun to reduce on Golden Bridge by evening.Police officials said by tomorrow traffic load is expected to further reduce.
“There is high volume of traffic because it is festival time. Vehicles in huge numbers are going from Surat-Ankleshwar to Ahmedabad, Mount Abu, Delhi, Jaipur and Vadodara. When you have vehicles coming from six lane road to single or two lane, it creates jam. There is a work going on here,“ Bharuch district superintendent of police Sandip Singh said.
