PHED proposes 2nd phase of Bisalpur project

As a long-term solution to the drinking water problem in the state capital, PHED has proposed a second phase of the Bisalpur project which will cover the remaining areas falling under Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC).

JAIPUR: As a long-term solution to the drinking water problem in the state capital, PHED has proposed a second phase of the Bisalpur project which will cover the remaining areas falling under Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC). Currently, only half of areas under JMC are provided with Bisalpur water under the first phase of the project.
According to principal secretary, PHED, J C Mohanty, "the detailed project report (DPR) would be ready by December this year and if everything goes as per plan, the project would be completed in 2019."
The cash-strapped state government has sought the help of external agency for funding.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be around 950 crore. According to government sources, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has come forward to finance the project. The same agency funded the first phase of the project too. Tata Consultancy has been roped in to execute the project.
According to executive engineer, project division, south-I, Satish Jain, who is handling the project, Jaipur has been allotted 930 MLD of water from the Bisalpur dam of which only 600 MLD is being currently drawn.
The second phase is proposed to bring the remaining 330 MLD of water allocated for Jaipur. In order to avail that water, a new intake pumping station, additional raw water pipeline and water treatment plant at Surajpura have to be constructed. From Surajpura water treatment plant, a 9-km long pipeline will be constructed till Balabala pumping station to supply water to the city residents.
Areas to be covered under the second phase include Prithiviraj Nagar north and south, Niwaru, Kalwar Road, Bhankrota, Diggi-Malpura Road up to Muhana Mod, Sanganer Extn, Sitapura Industrial Area, etc.
It is also proposed to supply drinking water at Bassi, Dudu, Sambhar and Phulera en route. The project is designed to meet the demand of water till 2021, he said.
