CHANDIGARH: To strike a truce between former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief Ashok Tanwar, the Congress high command has given equal weightage to both for planning the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The celebrations will start from November 19. The party's Haryana affairs in-charge, Kamal Nath, will chair a 20-member committee for Indira's birth centenary events.
The panel which will have 11 leaders from the Hooda camp and the other nine will include Haryana's Congress legislature party (CLP) leader, Kiran Choudhry, and Tanwar.
According to information, the fist meeting of the committee would be held in the first week of November. Tanwar had suffered injuries as Congress workers had clashed with each other in New Delhi on October 6. One of Tanwar's supporters had got a case registered at a police station in New Delhi. Since then, Tanwar's group had been targeting Hooda and his men.
Kuldeep Soni, media in-charge of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), has also been given additional responsibility for the committee. "Our basic idea is to ensure that everything goes on smoothly during the function. Since people are already fed up with the BJP and have rejected INLD, we are hoping that the programme would be a success," said Soni.
After Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) chief Kuldeep Bishnoi joined the Congress, his wife and Hansi MLA Renuka Bishnoi has been made in-charge for organizing the programme of women-related issues in Haryana during the Indira birth centenary celebrations.
