New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has claimed that Shoaib, who worked as a visa agent in Gujarat and Rajasthan, was the biggest agent of ISI in the region.
Shoaib was brought to Delhi from Jodhpur and sent to 12-day police custody. He had stored all details about the operatives, ISI agents and maps in a phablet, which he destroyed during the police raid on Thursday night. The device was sent to a forensic laboratory to retrieve data.
He was trained to identify documents and extract information from Indian armed forces personnel.
Sources said that Shoaib was provided with a USB device by Pakistan high commission staffer Mehmood Akhtar. This device could extract information from any computer once inserted and kept there for a few minutes. A team has been formed to locate this device.
Police said Shoaib and his associates would visit the homes of visa applicants, ask about their family members and find out if there was a government servant in the house. They would later try to culture these government employees as sources. They would also try to find out armed forces officers who had old ties to Pakistan and would offer to arrange for visits to their ancestral homes or Hindu temples there in return for information.
Shoaib also ran an escort service for some officers of Pakistan high commission who may have been honey-trapped and later blackmailed. He’s being questioned about the identity of these officers. Shoaib had been to Pakistan six times and also has family there.
