Bhajji, who has not been part of the Indian team for a year now, also said that it was because of the Army men that people sleep peacefully in the comforts of their homes.

"You are the reason behind the festivals we celebrate because you keep vigil at the border to protect us and so that we can sleep peacefully at our homes," he said.

"I fold my hands and bow down to you and salute you and your family members and wish them a very Happy Diwali," he added.

Earlier, India Test captain Virat Kohli and former opener Virender Sehwag too wished the Indian Army ahead of the festival of lights. (Our 'Fauj' is the reason for our 'mauj': Virender Sehwag's Diwali wish for Indian Army)

An ardent fan of the Indian Army, Kohli has in the past praised the jawans for their brave acts. (The entire country is with you: Kohli wishes Indian Army Happy Diwali)

Recently, Kohli offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the Uri terrorist attack, branding it as "disturbing".

"When these big incidents happen regularly, it feels bad. When we feel bad about it, just think of the families of the soldiers. It's something very disturbing," Kohli had said.

Eighteen Indian soldiers were killed and several others were injured when heavily-armed militants stormed a battalion headquarters of the Indian Army in North Kashmir's Uri town on September 18.

Four militants involved in the terror strike were later killed by the army.

A day after the attacks, Kohli had tweeted out an image from Uri and said that it 'fill him up with emotions he can't explain'.

Interestingly, Kohli is not the only one to wish the jawans on this Diwali. Former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Mohammad Kaif too shared their special wishes through videos on social media.
