In Short

  • BJP, RSS making full efforts to end their communal and anti-Muslim image.
  • RSS planning to organise convention of Islamic clerics in Agra in November.
  • Convention to make Muslims aware of true intentions of BJP.

In an attempt to truly develop a secular outlook, the BJP and RSS are making full efforts to end their communal and anti-Muslim image and are in search of new ways to attract the largest minority community in India towards the party. PM Modi's "Pradhanmantri Nayi Manzil Yojna" has been formulated to assist Madrassa students in going for higher education and while it has been praised by the Muslim community, they are still not ready to embrace the BJP.

Now, the Bhartiya Muslim Rashtriya Manch, a unit of the RSS is planning to organise a national convention of Islamic clerics in Agra in November, to make the Muslims aware of the true intentions of the BJP government towards the welfare of Muslims. In the light of the current controversy over triple talaq and Common Civil Code, this convention is being seen as an effort at damage control by the RSS and the BJP, just before the announcement of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Mohd Ashfaq Saifi of the Manch told India Today that, in 1967, a large number of cowherds had assembled at the Jantar Mantar to make the government aware of their problems. At that time, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had ordered a lathicharge of the assembled crowd injuring many. The Manch will try to revive the memory of such incidents in the minds of the people.

"RSS WANTS MUSLIMS TO DEVELOP PATRIOTISM"

He said that the RSS wants the Muslims to develop a sense of patriotism that transcends religious boundaries. The RSS is trying to involve the Muslims in helping make India a terrorism-free, riot-free and highly literate country through the Manch and the November Convention of the Islamic Clerics being held in Agra is a big step in that direction.

Ashfaq said that the convention has been kept totally apolitical, but the political parties are welcome to attend it. Clerics from various Islamic like Deoband, Bareilvi, Shia and Sunni as well as clerics from Ajmer Sharif and Kaliyar Sharif Dargahs have been invited to this historic convention.

However, the Samajwadi Party is looking at this convention as a pathetic attempt by the RSS to whitewash its blood-stained image. Agra Samajwadi Party City President Raisuddin told India Today that this was merely an attempt by the RSS and BJP to enter the good books of Muslims just before the 2017 UP assembly elections. But the Muslims cannot and will not ever tolerate the BJP and RSS as their hands were stained in the blood of millions of Muslims since independence. He said that just like 2012, the Muslims will vote en masse in favour of the Samajwadi Party in 2017 as the SP was the only party that truly thought about Muslim welfare and the development of the state.

Bahujan Samaj Party's Gufran Qureshi said that both the BJP and the SP had deceived the Muslims of UP and now the eyes of the Muslim community have opened. The Muslims will now take every step after deep deliberation and will not allow themselves to be waylaid by any political party. The Muslims will exercise their right to vote in the favor of the party which they think is going to be their best option against the BJP and since both the SP and the Congress are in tatters at present, the BSP was the natural option left.
