Most surplus teachers get posting via online process
Nagpur: Surplus teachers in city schools were adjusted in institutes where vacancies existed through an online portal of the department of education (secondary) zilla parishad, Nagpur, at a special drive held at St Joseph’s Convent School, Mohan Nagar, on Wednesday and Thursday. Government-aided schools affiliated with zilla parishad come under the purview of this adjustment.
Education officer Satish Mendhe supervised the procedure.
150 posts are vacant in the city of which 143 are for Marathi and 7 for Hindi medium schools. 693 teachers from 256 schools are to be adjusted in three rounds. Currently, there are no vacancies in English medium schools. Day one started with the first round at 11am in which vacancies in Hindi medium schools were filled up. This was followed by Marathi medium. The day ended with 400 teachers going through the round, filling up 88 vacancies. 83 posts were filled up in Marathi and 5 in Hindi medium.
The second and third rounds of adjustment were conducted on Thursday for the remaining 293 teachers. Teachers’ appointment to new schools was done on the basis of their seniority, reservation status and subject taught. The selection of teachers as excess has been determined by a software used by the government. “Since the process is handled digitally, it is transparent and cannot be tampered with,” said Mendhe.
The process has left many teachers bewildered. They said that it has many flaws and their concerns needed to be addressed. JA Adhau, a teacher, said that “It was unjustified that junior teachers were not selected for the process though there are some who have served for more than 15 years.”
However, not everyone is opposed to the process as another teacher Milind Nithode said, “The selection is as per rules and it should be considered as any other routine transfer in government departments. The ultimate goal is teaching children.”
As some teachers walked up to Mendhe, complaining about the process, he said, “It will take time for teachers to understand the benefits of the new system. Once they realize it, they will fully support it”.
