Egyptian sisters a big hit at 'White Collar Boxing'

Yara Attia El Bayoumi and her sister Nada Attia El Bayoumi, proved to be the stars of the latest White Collar Boxing Fight Night XIV, which took place at the Habtoor Grand Hotel in Dubai.

Yara and Nada, were pitted against 36 year-old Briton, Anna Royall-Smith, a partner in a concierge service, and 31 year-old Swiss F&B Director, Isabelle Vonburg.  

“Yara and Nada were competing in the final bout of the evening, which was a tag team contest. It was a very intense battle with both teams showing real determination as well as considerable technique,” said Mark Povey of MJP Events, the organiser of White Collar Boxing on behalf of sponsor Transguard Group. 

“There are no losers in White Collar, anyone who trains and then competes is considered a winner,” he added.

Yara, 22, the older of the two sisters and currently a final year student at Dubai Medical College said: “My father brought us up to love God, family, sports and education. He told us a healthy brain needs a healthy body. That is why both Nada and I are very competitive in everything we do.”

“If I had one message to convey, it would be that Arabic women wearing a hijab can compete successfully in any sport,” added Yara.   

All contestants are novices and are put through an intensive eight-week training camp, prior to the event which includes both a physical and technical training programme.

Applicants are assessed under the watchful eye of professional trainers and boxing coaches, with competitor safety and welfare a priority.

Subsequently contestants are equally matched during the selection process to ensure a fair fight on the night.
