The poster boys of Pune’s music scene
In the two-odd years since its formation, the city-based Skylight Vision has travelled places and how.
Be it winning competitions, featuring on pop charts or touring cities across the country, the alt/progressive music band has done it all. Now, they are gearing up for their second album, this time with music videos, which will be out early next year.
As a warm-up to that, the band recently released a song called Perfect knife.
“But this is not a part of the album; it’s a single,” clarifies Skylight Vision’s vocalist and manager Gaurav Tophakhane. Gaurav, along with Aniket Ganoo (vocals/ acoustic guitars), Bhushan Chitnis (guitars), Saurabh Kalokhe (bass), Shaunak Kulkarni (keys) and Anurag Sawangikar (drums), are regulars on the city’s music circuit. Their music has been instrumental in getting the attention of Puneites and even music lovers from other cities.
Ask Gaurav how things have changed since the time they started out and he replies, “We have got recognition and have performed at a prominent music festival as well as happening venues in other cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai. Today, when we perform in the city, the music lovers join in; they know our songs by heart. That, for us, is the biggest change as well as compliment.” The band has also collaborated with Shaa'ir + Func in the past.

Perfect knife went through the test of time and what we hear today is a much refined version. Though Gaurav says that there is no influence of any particular band on their work, their listeners feel otherwise. “People have compared our music to that of Porcupine Tree but they are not our influences per se. Our music is just melodious and easy on the ears,” informs Gaurav.

- Perfect knife, their sixth release, is a song about the daily rat race and how you have nowhere to go but still harbour certain dreams in the mind.
- Skylight Vision was selected among the top-five from 300 participants at a popular competition for music bands from across the country.
