CID partly opens police app for public

Kolkata:The CID West Bengal today launched an app ‘Crime Criminal Search’ (CCS) to help people by sharing summarised information on certain crimes, though it was being used by police officers for a year.

Launching the app at the CID headquarters here, Director General of Police Surajit Kar Purkayastha said, “The app is an integrated approach for the IOs (investigation officers) not only for West Bengal Police but also for Kolkata Police officers.

“We have seen that the IOs are benefited (by the app)….

It’s a big boost for the whole system. It will surely be helpful for the public also,” he said.

Developed by the CID a year back, the CCS is an android-based app with a centralised databased of 2,44,538 crimes and 2,01,682 criminals for the use of police officers of West Bengal.

Currently, it is being used by 1,663 authorised police officers of various ranks in the state to get the basic search for criminals.

“It’s an interactive page. We are sharing certain information of the app for the public on crime related queries in a particular district. One can also verify the criminal background, if any, of a particular person,” a senior officer of the CID said.

The people would also be able to search for involvement of any vehicle in crimes in the state.

“It will also be an utility tool for them as they will be able to see the location of any police station on an interactive map,” he said.
