When Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) threatened to vandalise theatres if they screened 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', Maharashtra Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis mediated between the MNS president
Raj Thackeray and
Karan Johar to allow the safe release of the film. Karan gave into MNS' demand and promised to donate a sum of Rs 5 crore to the Army welfare fund.
Now, in an interview with a daily, actor-director
Farhan Akhtar has strongly condemned the deal.
Terming it unfortunate, Farhan further said that the 5-crore deal has 'set a terrible precedent'. He further pointed out that it wasn't the government who had laid down the diktat of not releasing the film. He elaborated that agreeing to the deal, in effect, meant that one is listening to 'the people who threaten with violence'.
The 'Wazir' actor also stated that the film industry is always a soft target. To justify his point, Farhan explained how the business between India and Pakistan, worth two billion dollars, was not stopped after Uri attacks.
