LISTEN: U2 have penned a short song to mark TXFM closure
U2 have penned a special song to bid farewell to music station TXFM following its final broadcast on Wednesday.
The station went off the air on Wednesday with a bang as musicians and listeners alike lamented the loss with tweets of praise.
Among the well-wishers was U2, who penned a short farewell song for the much-loved Dublin station.
In March, the station made the decision not to renew its license due to its precarious financial position. News of its closure, which coincided with the second anniversary of the service's rebranding from Phantom FM, came as a shock to listeners.
TXFM was one of the only stations in the country dedicated to supporting niche acts, especially Irish ones, and its shuttering comes at a very challenging time for music radio.

If all those mourning the passing of Phantom/TXFM now had listened to and championed it over the last decade or so it wouldn't be closing.

Well, there it is now. My bro just left work and got in the car. It's a very empty sound. #txfm @TXFMDublin pic.twitter.com/4C94iDLb2F

For Sale : 1 radio
It was an emotional night in Marconi House, giving TXFM their final send off. Feeling a mixture of sad & angry now. Indie music is homeless.

Right down to the exact day & time.#TXFM
Defiantly switched the work canteen radio to @TXFMDublin for the last time :( We may have lost the war but it was worth the fight! #TXFM pic.twitter.com/EDQFBy9UL2
