The sanitation department of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started Gandhigiri campaign to publicly shame people, who defecate in open, by giving them rose and playing drums.

KALYAN: The sanitation department of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started Gandhigiri campaign to publicly shame people, who defecate in open, by giving them rose and playing drums.
The sanitation department staff on Wednesday morning made surprise visits in areas like Patripul, Indira Nagar and Ambivli railway station area where many defecate in open.
A team member said, "While a few who felt embarrassed, pledged to use toilets in future, many opposed and blamed civic body for not providing clean public toilets."
Prasad Thakur, public relation officer of KDMC said, "City's open air toilets are becoming a serious health hazard.
Following the Swachh Bharat campaign, the KDMC is acting against such people and the campaign will continue till people don't stop using open toilets."
Opposition leader of KDMC Prakash Bhoir said that before taking any such action the civic body should construct sufficient public toilets in city.
