n ensemble of 75 youths from across the country performed a symphony orchestra on Saturday at the Galeri Indonesia Kaya auditorium in Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta.

Featuring harpist Rama Widi, the Indonesia Youth Concert Orchestra (IYCO) comprises musicians between the ages of eight and 22 who have advanced through auditions. 

“By performing regional and national songs, hopefully this performance will help boost the spirit of the Sumpah Pemuda [Youth Pledge] through music,” said Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation program director Renitasari Adrian in a press release.

Meanwhile, IYCO program director Dewi Atmodjo said: "Our vision is to make the IYCO a place for young people to create and contribute positively to the community and to their surroundings, as well as build up the nation through their passion for music."

The concert was a pre-show performance for the Konser Simfoni Pemuda (youth symphony concert) slated to take place on Sunday at the Aula Simfonia Jakarta concert hall in Kemayoran, North Jakarta.

Conducted by Addie MS, the full orchestra performance will feature the IYCO as well as 100 other youths from local choir groups. (mra/kes)
