Kashmir Unrest: Yashwant Sinha-led team meets CM Mehbooba Mufti, traders

“Today, I can assure you that conditions in J&K will soon become better. We have to look forward, not backward,” he said.

On Monday, Sinha had clarified that his team, which includes former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah, retired Air Vice-Marshal Kapil Kak, journalist Bharat Bhushan and president of the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation Sushobha Barve, had come in their individual capacities.

“We are not a delegation. We are a few people, who I must call people of goodwill. We have come here on humanitarian grounds to share the pain of the people,” he said. In the morning, they held a two-hour-long meeting with the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry team. The team discussed the situation in the state during the unrest, and “events that occur because of the long standing Kashmir problem”, said a statement issued by Chamber after the meeting.

“It was impressed upon that it was a political problem which needed to be solved by India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir through unconditional and sustained dialogue… in a way that it becomes a win-win situation for all as had been visualised by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” the statement read. Later, the delegation held separate meetings with the members of civil society and the J&K Bar Association.
