Mumbai: The city inched closer to the half century mark in cadaver transplants on Wednesday after the family of a
Jaslok Hospital staffer consented to donate her organs. The 49th donation by Sondharva Meena Bhanji (44), saved six lives, including that of a 46-year-old heart failure patient from Andheri.
Bhanji who worked as a helper in the hospital’s was rushed to the
Peddar Road hospital on Monday after she suffered an intracranial hemorrhage.
A day later, she was declared brain dead. The family consented to donate her heart, liver, kidneys, corneas and skin.
The 49 cadaver transplants, highest recorded so far, have contributed to 77 kidney transplants, 48 liver and one lung transplant.
